Meet the people behind
Uncommon Hospitality.

Brothers Tony and Nate DeLois own Uncommon Hospitality, a hotel management and development company based in Portland. They followed different paths after growing up in Yarmouth (Tony became a chef and Nate worked in real estate), but entered the hotel industry with encouragement from their father, Joe—who founded this small family business in 2015.

The story of Uncommon Hospitality begins with Joe’s purchase of The Colonial Inn in 2012: He managed its historic tax-credit rehabilitation project in 2013 and a couple of years later created what is now Uncommon Hospitality. Back then he called it TCI Hospitality Group (for “The Colonial Inn”) and started to bring his vision of hospitality to Ogunquit. In 2014, Joe purchased The Admiral’s Inn, also in Ogunquit, recruiting Tony to direct the management company and help both hotels run more efficiently. In 2017, Nate joined the team to help develop and open The Francis Hotel, a 15 room boutique hotel in a historic mansion in Portland’s West End. Today, Tony is the company’s people manager as COO, while Nate looks after the finances and development of new projects as CFO.

From members of our founding family to more recent additions, the Uncommon Hospitality team is a family all its own—one with deep expertise and an unwavering commitment to community.

When Liz and I lived in California, we had little time off together—but once a month we’d drive north to stay in inns and BnBs along Route 1’s North Coast. Waking up to the smell of damp eucalyptus and stunning views while sipping morning coffee are memories I’ll never forget.

As a boutique hotel owner, am I allowed to say that my favorite travel experience is a trip to Disney? We went when our kids were 4 and 5, and the look of pure joy in their eyes at every turn will stay with me forever. The Disney operation is also seriously locked in!
